City Center one shopping mall opened on October 12, 2006 in the
Zagreb neighbourhood of Jankomir, constructed by private Austrian
investors, professor of architecture Wolfgang Kaufmann and Consul
Dr. Hubert Hofmann. More than 100 million euros was invested in the
construction, making this the third largest investment in Croatia
in 2006. The mall is managed by local experts employed by the
Croatian company CC Real d.o.o. k.d.
City Center one is the first standard two-storey shopping mall
in Croatia. Due to exceptional business results and strong interest
in space for lease, expansion of City Center one began in the
summer of 2008. At a grand re-opening on April 16, 2009, City
Center one was expanded to hold 42 new stores on an area of 36,000
sq m with a total of 2,100 parking spaces. The total area of a
little over 100,000 sq m holds 130 stores, restaurants, cafés,
additional services, as well as the mall management and
maintenance.
City Center one shoppers have 2100 free parking spaces at their
disposal in a big underground garage, in two parking garages above
ground and in the parking lot in front of the mall. The mall also
has a special parking garage for employees.
Additional 40 million euros was invested in the expansion of the
mall, raising the total value of invested capital to 140 million
euros, which is one of the biggest investments in this economic
branch. City Center one employs more than 1,700 residents of Zagreb
and the surrounding area.
City Center one spans two levels connected by elevators and
escalators, completely accessible to persons with disabilities and
children. The mall is integrated into the urban matrix, placed
octagonally in relation to the streets. What makes it different
from other malls is its façade with large signs and special
lighting, resulting in a play of colours which brings the building
to life both during the day and by night. Another special detail
that makes the building easily recognizable is the large glass roof
which provides daylight during the day, making shopping a more
pleasant experience. Wide hallways, bright areas of the mall and
transparent glass surfaces make the interior of the mall clear and
easy to get around, and pleasant to stay at. The innovative
architectural solution was devised by architect Otto Barić,
designer was Igor Dombi, while the head contractor was the company
Stipić Grupa.
In addition to offering a wide variety of world-known brands and
respected domestic brands, City Center one is also a pleasant place
for socialization and entertainment. The large area in the central
part of the ground floor, visible also from the gallery on the top
floor, is often where interesting events take place. City Center
one always provides entertainment and events, and is a place where
one can often see famous people shop or hang out with their
friends. The youngest visitors have two playgroups at their
disposal: One2play on the ground floor and Turbo limač on the first
floor of the mall. The playgroups offer educational content,
children's entertainment, surprises and interesting events in an
imaginative surrounding.
City Center one also houses a large Interspar hypermarket and is
the first mall in Croatia to offer popular German fashion brands
Peek & Cloppenburg and C&A, major footwear retailer
Humanic, a favourite of young people - New Yorker as well as the
sportswear and footwear chain Hervis. Among many other famous
brands, City Center one is also a home to shoe retailer
Stiefelkönig, German drugstore Müller and Douglas perfumery. Local
stores, such as Varteks, Peko, Magma and Iris, with various brands,
improve the mall's assortment. The variety is further boosted by
Konikom with its electrical goods, VIP centar, Apple iStyle Shop
and My House of Villeroy&Boch. With 8 stores specializing in
accessories for children, City Center one has the best offer of
toys, clothing, footwear and baby equipment.
City Center one is one of the most visited shopping malls. In
2008, the mall had over 7.9 million visitors, with annual turnover
in 2008 reaching 150 million euros.
City Center one is located in the western part of the city, on
an easily accessible location by the Ljubljana Avenue. The mall can
be quickly reached from all parts of the city by wide motorways. It
also has excellent public transportation connections, both by bus
(ZET lines 116, 107 and 136) and tram lines 5 and 17 (to the Prečko
turnabout).
